  • We sat down with Clinical Nutrition Manager, Hoda Sheet, to discuss her career journey at Sodexo and her transition from the healthcare industry in Lebanon to the United States.

Hoda Sheet currently serves as Clinical Nutrition Manager for MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital in Washington D.C. Originally from Lebanon, she began her professional career there after graduating with a master’s in nutrition. After marrying her husband, the pair decided to move to the United States to start a new journey.

To practice nutrition in the United States, Hoda had to earn specific credentials and become a Registered Dietitian (RD). Continuing her studies with a master’s degree, she enrolled in a second program to pursue her Ph.D.

“Through hard work and determination, I earned both my Ph.D. and the credentials to work in the United States” Hoda shares.

Hoda joined Sodexo a year ago after completing her programs. Initially stepping into this role, she was very hesitant, as this was her first time working in the United States and experiencing a different culture.

Hoda.png“That is what I admire and love about Sodexo. The support that you get, all the way from the leadership team to the dietitians, is incredible. It gave me this feeling of comfort that it is okay if I do not know something, it is a different practice here, and therefore gave me the confidence to ask questions,” Hoda shares.

Hoda is part of an exceptional team of dietitians who embody positivity, determination, and teamwork. The support from her colleagues played a crucial role in her swift adaptation to cultural changes, aiding her in comprehending the distinctions between working in the United States and her previous experience in Lebanon.

A workday for Hoda and her team consists of signing in and visiting patients, checking patient progress plans, updating the patient menu, collecting feedback from patients on the food plan, patient screenings, and checking the food trays before they are sent out.

“It feels good to see patients improve. When you see the progress patients have made from the time they came to when they leave, it is truly inspiring,” Hoda exclaims.

Reflecting on her career with Sodexo, Hoda emphasizes the ongoing support she receives from her colleagues and highlights how Sodexo’s resources empower employees to pursue their full potential, fostering a sense of belonging to something greater. The company provides various resources for the professional development of registered dietitians (RDs), including nutrition certifications, mentorship opportunities, and a recently launched Doctor of Clinical Nutrition Program.

“I encourage dietitians to pursue a career at Sodexo because they have great benefits and give dietitians the tools needed to grow throughout their careers. I also must stress the support and growth the company brings to its employees. Sodexo allows you to find your passion and thrive along that path,” Hoda states.

Within her first year at Sodexo, Hoda successfully adjusted to the work environment in the United States, crafted menus that effectively met patient needs, and acquired the skills essential for advancing her career.
